Sandra Atkins arrived in Middleburg, Virginia, as a young woman of 27, and immediately hung out her shingle to start her own CPA practice. Over a 25 year period, the firm grew to include 4 partners, 2 offices and 21 staff members. She obtained the Personal Financial Specialist designation, and formed Focus Wealth Management, Ltd. in response to her client’s request for financial planning services. Just as her future seemed secure, her late husband died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack, causing Sandi to re-think what she wanted to accomplish with the remainder of her working career.
Focus Wealth Management’s mission has grown out of Sandi’s desire to help other women through life’s transitions – both expected and unexpected. Since 2001, when she sold her interest in the CPA firm and devoted herself fully to the financial planning and investment advisory business, she has counseled women facing the emotional and financial decisions resulting from divorce or the loss of a spouse, as well as single women and couples who want to plan for a successful retirement or create a sound estate plan. She strives to ensure that each client’s goals are clearly understood and that their investment strategy is designed within the context of those goals.
Sandi is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Virginia Society of CPAs and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA). In 2008, she was named by Wealth Manager Magazine as one of the 50 Distinguished Women in Wealth Management. She has been active in the community for over 30 years and has served as a Board Member for many non-profit organizations. She currently is on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation, and is a Board Member of the Piedmont Community Foundation in Middleburg, VA. She is a past Board Member and Treasurer of The Hill School in Middleburg and Wakefield School in The Plains, and was Treasurer for many years for Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Middleburg. Sandi has remarried and lives in Middleburg.
